Hi, I’m Joy ๐☕
I build simple systems that buy back your time—and yes, earn while you sleep.
Welcome to Why Skool? (why-skool.blogspot.com), my little corner of the internet where community-building meets passive income, minus the tech headaches and guru-speak. If we just met: I’m the friendly human behind the posts, experiments, and screenshots. Pull up a chair, grab coffee—this is a no-ego zone ☕️
The Short Story (why I started this blog)
I’ve always wanted three things:
- income that isn’t chained to a time clock,
- a community that actually talks to each other, and
- a stack that doesn’t need five logins and a PhD to launch.
Like you, I tried stitching together forums, course platforms, email tools, webinar apps, CRMs—the whole spaghetti. Each “solution” added four more problems, and by the time I finished duct taping everything, I didn’t have energy left to serve people.
Then I found Skool. It felt like someone finally said: “You don’t need 17 tabs open. Here—build your community, courses, and payments in one place.”
And because I’ve followed Sam Ovens (since the consulting.com days) and respect Alex Hormozi’s no-nonsense builder mindset, I felt safe enough to go all-in and test it properly.
This blog is me building in public—sharing what works, what flops, and the exact steps I’d give a friend.
Why Join Skool? Because I believe that...
- Passive income is earned by systems, not by wishing. ๐ฐ The earlier you ship version 1, the sooner compounding starts. Skool just makes shipping HAPPEN. It manages to make you move forward, without the bloat of tech or the baggage of overthinking. (Bye ๐งณ, hello ๐ชถ)
- Community is the ultimate MOAT. ๐ Yeah that's actually a word (I learned it from Sam in this video entitled "A Recipe For Domination: Long Term Thinking, Moats And Asymmetric Warfare": https://youtu.be/PdTBLPL2yos ... I'm telling yah, Sam's the G.O.A.T. ๐, that vid was 7 years ago!!!) Courses, content, and coaching are better together when humans can talk, help, and belong.
- Trust the builders. I value the track records of people like Sam and Alex who obsess over usefulness, not fluff. ๐
- Simplicity scales. ๐ If I can’t explain the setup to a busy friend in 3 minutes, it’s too complex.
What I'm Building / What You’ll Find Here
- Skool deep dives – honest breakdowns of features, fees, and clever setups for free, paid, freemium, and tiers.
- Step-by-step playbooks – launch checklists, onboarding flows, gamification ideas, and “copy-paste” community prompts.
- Build-with-me experiments – real tests, real screenshots, and “what I’d do differently” notes you can steal.
- Tool comparisons – Skool vs. the usual suspects, with practical recommendations (not just feature bingo).
If a post helped you skip trial-and-error, using my links is the nicest way to say thanks. It costs you nothing extra and keeps this little lab running. ❤️
How I’m Different (a tiny promise)
- No hype. I don't like hypey peeps myself... I got burned by gurus before. I’ll never promise overnight riches or pretend it’s “push button.”
- Only what I use. If I recommend it, that means that I’ve used it or stress-tested it.
- Clarity first. Fewer buzzwords, more screenshots and sequences you can copy today.
- Warm + human. This is a relationship, not a transaction. I’m rooting for your momentum.
The Origin Scene (story time)
Once upon a very messy browser, I had 23 tabs open: “community platform comparison,” “best course host,” “how to embed calendar,” “payment gateways outside US,” and a Google Doc titled: “HELP.”
I kept thinking, “If tools are this hard, how will my members feel?”
Enter Skool. I set up a group, added a course, toggled payments, scheduled a kickoff call—in a single sitting. The next day, one message from a member said, “This finally makes sense.” That was the hook. When your tool disappears and the learning shows up, you keep going.
Now, I write so you can skip the 23-tab spiral and ship your version 1 this week. Deal?
Who I Write For
- Non-techie builders who want clean systems and fast wins.
- Coaches/course creators who prefer people over plumbing.
- Community-first entrepreneurs who believe belonging beats broadcasting.
If that’s you, you’re home.
I will never forget what a brilliant mentor once said. She said:

P.S. Some links here are affiliate links. It costs you nothing extra, and it lets me keep testing, documenting, and giving you the good stuff for free. Thank you for the caffeine and cookies. ๐๐ค
A Few Fun Facts...
- I edit posts like a DJ—cut, loop, remix until the flow feels right.
- My love language is clean onboarding (and snacks ๐ช).
- Favorite sound: a community thread that keeps going without me. That’s compounding. ๐ค
